*At Cornell University Early Childhood Center (ECC), Elizabeth Stilwell, ECC Director says, "Research shows that music should be an essential part of early childhood. It's fun, creative and it's a proven way to develop areas of the brain for later academic tasks such as reading and math. Early musical experiences can dramatically enhance a child's ability to acquire language, vocabulary and sensory motor skills, spatial reasoning, logic and rhythm skills" Stilwell says.

How Does It Work?
Exploring Music™ Interactive Music Curriculum on video is easy to use. Each quarter your center will receive 2 copies of a video that will have 13 lessons, along with a printed Teacher's guide. Your teachers simply gather their class with a few items listed with the Teacher's guide, items such as shakers or rhythm sticks. The class interacts with the video. Teachers facilitate the activities. At times during each lesson, there are instructions to pause the video while the teacher get the class ready for the next activity.

How Long Are The Lessons?
The lessons are designed for a 25 minutes class, but can be adjusted for any length for each age group; as short as 5 or 10 minutes. The activities can be used as support to other subjects such as language arts, math, social studies, exposure to other cultures, physical activity (whole body movement), fine motor skills (hand motions and instruments).

The lessons are very flexible and can be adapted to 1 or 2 activities, with large or small groups, in large rooms or small classrooms.

What is covered in the lessons?
Lessons build a love of music and learning in children, create a partnership of music and learning between parents and children, builds language development through singing, and builds math skills through rhythm, teaches basics of music education such as: rhythm, note values, musical symbols, instruments, vocal skills, various musical genres, creative movement, introduction to great classical pieces, introduction to the orchestra, introduction to piano.

How Do We Show The Video?
Classes have successfully shown the videos on computer screens or on TVs.

What If We Already Have A Music Teacher?
This program does not take the place of an existing music teacher, it enhances and supports the music teacher. It is a program that can be used at any time during the week when a classroom teacher wants to insert a music activity. It is on video, and it belongs to your center. You can use it when it fits best in your class schedule.

What Ages Can Use This Curriculum?
The videos are designed for toddlers through Pre-K age children, but have also been used with babies as young as 6 months.

Exploring Music™ Interactive Music Curriculum is designed as a 3 year year curriculum for toddlers through 1st Grade. Children's aptitude and skills will grow through exposure and repetition.

What Is The Cost?
Your only cost is the take home CD for each child in the center. Every 13 weeks there is a take home CD for each student filled with fun songs the reinforce the DVD music lessons. The CD will be your students to use at home or in the car, learning and enjoying the music they will be taught during class. The cost for this CD is $5.00 when your center makes a one year commitment to use the DVD lessons or support materials. Some centers pass this $5.00 CD charge to the parents, others absorb this cost as a curriculum purchase.
